Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium at Uppal, Hyderabad

After movies and Biryanis, the Hyderabadis are passionate about cricket. Some of the best matches are played at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium and the people come in hordes to enjoy their favourite sport. The stadium was initially known as Visaka International Cricket Stadium Ground but was later renamed in honour of the late Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi.

This is one of the main cricket stadium of the city and is situated at Uppal. For contact details of the stadium one can call Justdial Hyderabad. Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium Hyderabad is the home ground for the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). It is also the home ground to Deccan Chargers, the team that represents Hyderabad city in the Indian Premier League. The HCA’s previous home ground was Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium which was smaller in size and also was infamous for being a high-scoring ground and hence high profile cricket matches were discouraged here. The stadium came into being after a proposal in 2003 for a new stadium was approved.

Infrastructure of Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad

The stadium is spread across 16 acres (65,000 m2) of area. The ends of the stadium are called the Pavilion End and North End. When the prolific cricketer VVS Laxman retired from professional cricket, the Hyderabad Cricket Association decided to honour the state hero by rechristening the North End after him. At present the seating capacity at the stadium is of 55,000 spectators. As informed at the start of the article this is Deccan Chargers home ground and since most Indian Premier League matches are conducted in the day/night format, to enable adequate vision during the night time, the HCA in April 2007, commissioned the flood lights. The stadium has mounted flood lights on six towers which brilliantly lights up the whole stadium.

There is sufficient parking space at the stadium for spectators to park their car. The stadium also has an exclusive practice area for the cricketers. There is a reception hall where several Memorabilia are displayed and there are picture galleries of crickets and cricket administrators. The stadium also has a corporate boxes for VVIP guests, a commentator’s room and press rooms where maximum pre and post match conferences are carried out. There are also modern dressing rooms for the teams. For Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium tickets, you need to go to the booking office or call them.
